It’s not as scary as you think it is.

I promise.

Today I want to talk about the ever feared and dreaded enema. I once posted this picture of myself with my enema bag on an Instagram story and I got a lot of fearful response from it. People are scared of it.

I get it, I wasn’t stoked on putting a tube up my ass the first time either.

Oh the things we do for health! It’s really not that big of a deal and it leaves you feeling pretty good afterwards. Especially when detoxing, enemas can be extremely beneficial. Enemas are a quick and easy process that I’m gonna walk you through!

Why Enema?

An enema is of great assistance when detoxing as it can help unblock the colon and aid in the elimination process. It can help alleviate pressure that can affect you in other ways, such as headaches, skin issues, stomach trouble, and energy levels. The accumulation of stagnant waste in the body is the core cause of any disease and to avoid this, the health and functionality of your eliminatory channels are vital. Many of the foods people eat today are not colon friendly as they are drying and acidic, meaning they move slow and hang around in the body for longer than desired. The greatest way to avoid this is by eating a diet comprised of mostly fruits and veggies as they are hydrating, alkalizing, and full of fibre for easily processing and elimination. When you use an herbal tea in an enema, those healing herbs enter the walls of the colon to clean and strengthen the tissues. By removing stagnant waste, enemas are a great health tool for all.

How Often Should We Enema?

How often one should enema depends on the situation, but overall you don’t want to do this everyday or too often because you can become dependant on them. Primarily, you want to fix constipation issues with diet as the health of your colon highly depends on what you put into it. Along with proper diet, you can add in a good intestinal rejuvenator containing clays and herbs to rehabilitate the health of your GI tract.

  • If one is detoxing on a diet of raw fruit, veggies, and herbs, use enemas as needed. Eventually diet and herbs will settle this naturally.
  •  If one is doing a juice fast and not eliminating daily (totally the case for me!), enemas are crucial as you are not getting the fibre you would normally get from eating the fruits, veg, herbs. The fibre in food is what pushes waste out, and if nothing is coming out (less than usual is expected), you should probably help yourself out with an enema. However, many people still do eliminate during a juice fast in which they won’t need frequent enemas, so it really depends on each individual. During one of my juice fasts I woke up feeling the detox effects pretty hard; brain fog, head pressure, headache, lethargic. I did an enema and felt the pressure immediately let up. If you’re going to do a juice fast and you’re not poopin, you need to be doing enemas to help eliminate the old waste you’re loosening up with the juices.

What To Use?

It is best you use an herbal tea mix or regular spring water, but there is much debate over the popular coffee enema. The notion of the coffee enema is to stimulate the liver and bowels and the science behind it is quite fascinating, but Dr. Morse advises against it and I’d have to agree. He states that coffee enemas are far too stimulating to the bowel tissues and that overtime it can have an inflammatory response as it is acidic. He only advises it if one’s colon is “locked” and cannot make a bowel movement.

 Some  Advice…

Its really like chugging a beer through a funnel or beer bong; if you relax, it’ll flow right into you with ease. If you tense up, you’ll likely choke. Enemas are the beer bongs for your ass, however a much healthier version with a very different goal. Take a deep breath and relax your body before insertion and continually practice deep breathing throughout the process.

How to do an Enema

Step 1: Brew 1L of water with 2 tablespoons of herbal tea and allow to cool to room temperature. I like to use Dr. Morse’s Heal All Tea in a very large jar. Strain tea after it is cooled. He also recommends herbs such as Cascara Sagrada, Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm Bark, Plantain Leaf, Comfrey Root, Burdock Root and Gentian.

Step 2: Bring the following items into your bathroom

  • towel (to lie on)
  • enema bag (cleaned)
  • coconut oil or other natural lubricant
  • mirror
  • music
  • cooled tea

Step 3: You will need to hang the enema bag up high on the shower bar or door so gravity can do its thing. If it’s not high enough it wont fully work, you need it so that the hose is fully stretched out to reach you laying on the floor. Lay your towel down where you plan on hanging your bag.

Step 4: Make sure the valve is shut! Pour tea into the top of the bag and hang.

I got this for under $30 on Amazon. Having a bag with a valve makes the world of difference!

Step 5: To avoid an air block into your ass, point the tip of the hose back into the empty tea jar and release the valve so the hose fills fully. Allow a little tea to flow into the jar and close the valve again. Add that tea back into the top of the bag.

Step 6: Throw on some tunes if you haven’t already. Shits about to get real 💩

Step 7: Take pants off and use a little coconut oil to lube up your butt hole as well as the hose tip.

Step 8: Set up your mirror so that you can sit on your towel, lay to your left side and view your asshole in the mirror.  Get the hose tip ready.

Step 9: Use your sphincter muscles to push out (obviously not too hard💩 ). You will see in the mirror that your butt hole opens when you do this. THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT! While your butthole is openly smiling at the mirror, carefully slide the tube tip inside about 3 or 4 inches.

Step 10: Take a deep breathe and relax. While on your left side, hold the hose in place and open the valve. You will feel an immediate rush into you, allow this and try not to clench.

Step 11: Take as much as you can and then roll to your right side. Hold the hose tip in place while you do this. This will help move the tea around the bend of your colon and further into the large intestine. How much liquid you can take may vary for different individuals but I take the whole litre of tea. Close valve if you couldn’t take it all and remove the hose.

Step 12: It is best to hold the enema in when possible so the herbs can permeate the colon walls. It is good to massage the belly and switch sides laying down. Deep breathing into the diaphragm also helps move things around. Hold for at least five minutes or until you feel you need to release.

Step 13: Time to release. Head to the toilet and do your thing. You’ll be there for a little while and when you think it’s over, you’ll probably be back. Take it from me as I learned this the hard way, don’t go driving anywhere immediately after. Wait 15 min at least just in case you gotta go again.

And that’s it! You are now a butt-chugging champion with a much cleaner large intestine. Clean your bag with something non toxic and rinse very well. If you want to level up your colon cleanliness, you can attend some colonic sessions where you are flushed more thoroughly and deeper into the colon.
